How to create the effect of caustics with the 3ds Max and Mental Ray?

In rendering of scenes and lighting in general, one of the most complex to achieve the so-called Caustics. This is the dispersion of the ray of light for a semi-transparent surface that allows the passage of photons on his material. The 3d tools generally do not produce such an effect with the type scaline renderer, with only specialized in raytracing software, such as the V-Ray, Mental Ray or YafRay. Because this type of action requires much processing power, the use of Caustics requires that the artist enable the option in several locations.
The first step in the plan selected by the artist on the scene should generate Caustics.This is done in the object’s properties, right-click the mouse over it to access this menu. After the artist opens the menu, tab within the Mental Ray should be marked to Generate Caustics option.
Another place where the use of Caustics should be enabled is in the panel rendering. Once the user selects the Mental Ray as a surrender, several special configuration tabs are available. One of them is called Indirect Illumination, where various options of Mental Ray can be changed.
In the same menu, you need only to enable the use of lighting and overall effect of the caustics. Both options need to be empowered so that the effect is created.
The author of the tutorial also makes minor adjustments for quality in effect (samples) to which it is generated and more evident. In the end, all that is needed are some points of light so you can see the rays of light deflected in surrender.
